I’m scared of not reaching the other side of things that need to be leapt over, even with a friend waiting open armed on the other side to catch me. He’s scared of wide open spaces. I found my way across via a fallen tree bridge, less fearful of surfaces breaking beneath my feet. We were in thicket of trees leading to a cemetery, no open spaces. I saw him fly.

As part of REMOVALS , a series of events in which THINGS at the Café will be subtracted; on Sunday 11th of March, MONEY will be taken away, with alternative forms of value negotiated.

In simple terms, this means that if you would like a a tea, coffee or cake, you will need to barter - come prepared with things with which to swap them for!!

Items gained by the cafe at the end of the day will be photographed and / or exhibited at the cafe throughout the following week.

REMOVALS is a design research project by Goldsmith’s Design & Environment PG student & the Café manager, Georgina Cook which aims to test and expand on ideas related to adaption and transition and “elimination, by design,” as proposed by the Australian theorist and farmer Tony Fry.

Last night at home, listening to Vashti, drifting in and out of sleep, being conscious of my breath, trying to calm my adrenaline, seeking solutions, resolutions, my mind and body went somewhere else for a few seconds: to my future death bed where I felt myself die, with a jolt, my heart stopping for a second and my mind going blank.

I came back from it, with slight shock and a beating heart and a horrid, weighty remembrance that one day I’m not gonna be here. It’s all gonna be gone. Then all of that shit in my head just seemed laughable and silly. I’m sure I fell asleep smiling.

“Odds are, if you were raised in a Western culture, you think of emotions as largely private events. you locate them within a person’s boundaries, confined within their mind and skin. When conversing about emotions, your use of singular possessive adjectives betrays this point of view. You refer to ‘my anxiety,’ ‘his anger,’ or ‘her interest.’ Following this logic, love would seem to belong to the person who feels it. Defining love as positivity resonance challenges this view. Love unfolds and reverberates between and among people — within interpersonal transactions — and thereby belong to all parties involved, and to the metaphorical connective tissue that binds them together, albeit temporarily. … More than any other positive emotion, then, love belongs not to one person, but to pairs or groups of people.
